What it means for me

Sitting on my throne, watching my workers hard at it.

So, we're burning straw. Tim's learning the nuances of the mechanics of the burner. We're both realizing that we have a new partner on the farm and in our lives.

It's a nice feeling to know that we have committed to enjoying all of the benefits of switching over to this new system. The burn is so clean, and our fuel supply is so accessible.

I guess we won't be seeing the propane truck rumble past the house as often as we used to... and personally, I can't wait to see what we...

A Late Night Tour

Tim and I snuck out for a walk around the farm tonight...  Today was a 'snow' day. It was blustery and overcast. But now it is dark, still and relatively quiet (except for the delightful hum of the fans on barn #4, the feed tank auger and the wheat auger).

Tim showed me the new pipes and electrical work in barn#5. He explained how to switch the system from straw to oil (and I'm sure he will explain that more than once!). Then we went over to the boiler room. The farm 2000 is full of water (no...

How my body works

Image

Tim says...

My body knows when to shut down. It's like clockwork. I should know this by now, but nope, I continue to trust that I'm strong and healthy. I am sick right now, a cold most likely, just plain ole' worn out. Hit me yesterday at suppertime. I was in Ottawa last week for CFC meetings, left Tuesday, came back Thursday. Oh yea, I also shipped chickens on Monday night for Dad, and it snowed alot and the trucks got stuck and tractors wouldn't start yadda yadda. 4 hours sleep. Ottawa on...

Inaccurate Date Stamp

Image

I've been feeling the heat about the date stamp being grossly inaccurate on just about every picture we have. And by heat, I mean that it irks me that its wrong. I was feeling inspired to correct the problem when Tobi dropped the camera and the batteries flew out. What a great opportunity to set the date properly. And then Russell dropped the camera, so I set it again. Then Tobi dropped the camera. Then Tobi dropped the camera. Then I remembered why the date is always wrong. I don't feel bad abo...

Spare Time

what a beauty
what a beauty

Tim says...

It's been a couple weeks since I last updated. No excuses as to why no updates, but I have caught up on House and Bones, almost through Season 2 of X-Files, and just started to get a hold of Season 6 for The Office. And the projector bulb is at 1998 hrs. Those things are expensive. The snow is gone, feels like springtime, got some jump in my step. Fixed the wheat auger in Barn 4, so hopefully I can stop feeding the wildlife with wheat. Took the air compressor to the combine, that...

What to do with 2 extra hours a day?

Image

I hope I'm not jumping the gun here... but I think that I just paid $280 to have 2 extra hours a day. Does that make any sense? My kids are asleep at 7:00 pm. That is a lot different from the way it has been for the past 5 years! Holy cow! Is this for real? I am going to have so much time... what am I going to start with?

- cleaning the diaper store?
- laundry?
- X-files (no... there's only 12 hours of life left in our projector's bulb... and I hear those things are really expensive to rep...

Moving Forward

Ang says...

Somehow I managed to wake up and pull myself away from the cozy warm spot I had cuddled up next to Russell. What will I do with myself for the rest of this evening? It's only 11:32 p.m... isn't there time to squeeze in a few necessities?

No....I am going to ignore the laundry that I have been ignoring for about a week... I am going to ignore all of the correspondence that has been piling up since the diaper store flood... I am going to pretend I did something active today, and I...

Tim is back....

Image

Tim says:

So I'm back from my gruelling three days in T.Dot. I think that's how the cool kids say it. I was in T.Dot as part of some meetings of chicken farmers across Canada, a policy and economic fourm as the binder says. It was good, powerful, and informative, while fun at the same time. I also had a chance to talk to a Detective in the OPP, as part of the familys adventures of 2009. Also had a chance to see Grant (Father-in-Law) and see Walter at his son's resturant. Gretzky if you haven...
